FarmVille Podcast - April 25th!

Hey Farmers and welcome to this week’s installment of the Official FarmVille Podcast! My name is Lexilicious and I am here to bring you all of the latest news and information about FarmVille from Zynga. This week we’ll be talking about the recent revisions made to the Gift Box and Marketplace, including the ability to sell multiple items at once and the addition of the new “Search” feature. We’ll also talk about the Pig Pen revamp, the refreshed truffle hunting feature, and we’ll also have a sneak peak of what’s coming up in FarmVille.

Many of you have already been taking advantage of the most recent additions to the Gift Box and Marketplace but for those of you who have not yet discovered the joy of the new Search Function or the ability to sort your gift box by category, here is a quick explanation of our latest release.
In a nutshell, the Gift Box has been revised to make it a much more friendly experience! Items in the Gift Box can now be sorted into categories and the interface is faster than ever before. The base functionality of the gift box remains the same, but you can click on the different Filters to sort everything by that item type. To easily look through the contents of the Gift Box, just click on the arrow on the right or left, which will flip through the pages of your inventory.

The new Gift Box also has Search functionality, which you can see in the upper right-hand portion of the Gift Box window. Simply click on the white box then type in what you want to search for. Finally, if you need to clear out some stuff from your Gift Box, we’ve eliminated the need to keep clicking Sell if you have a ton of one item. Now if you have more than one of the same item and click Sell, you can use the up and down arrows to determine how many of these items you want to sell all at once. You can also enter in a number by clicking on the “1” and putting in whatever number you want to sell.

Search functionality has also been added to the Marketplace, and it works very much the same way as the gift box. Now if you need to find something in the Market, you can just type it in and FarmVille will find it quickly!
As you can see, the Search box is available in the upper right-hand portion of the Market window. It’ll always show up there no matter what part of the Market you are currently in. click on the white box, and type in something to search for.

As you start putting in letters FarmVille automatically sorts through and finds what you have selected, so you can see the choices narrow as you enter in more letters.

As of Friday night, we have also made some big changes to Pig Pens and Truffle Hunting. Previously, Pig Pens were great storage for your little four legged friends and they allowed you to hunt for Truffles. However, our latest release has introduced the long awaited Pig Breeding feature! You can start making new piglets immediately if you have a Pig Pen on either your Home Farm or your English Countryside farm. If you don’t have a Pig Pen, don’t worry! We’ll give you another one for free.If you have one already built, you’ll get a free boar as a prize.

Now, breeding new pigs is a lot like breeding new sheep. Click on your completed Pig Pen, and then choose “Look Inside” to see the new Pig Pen interface. If your Pig Pen is empty, you’ll need a boar and a pig to start breeding, the result of which is a piglet, which once fully grown will take on some of the characteristics of the parents, such as colors and perhaps the patterns. More than likely there will be some variation in the colors, depending on the colors of the parents. The pattern can only be inherited from the boar, but if both parents have the same pattern, the chance of pattern inheritance is much higher.

Now let's start breeding. Click on the boar you want to breed with and select the option to breed. Once you have done this, the pigs you can breed with the boar will be highlighted in the Pig Pen interface. Click on the pig you want to breed with and you’ll see the Breeding window. Breeding a new pig is a 24 hour process with a 50% success rate. This means that if you’re not successful, you will have to start all over again. However, you can improve your chance of success (and decrease the amount of time it takes to breed) by using Love Potions. The more love potions you use, the higher your success rate will be. You can acquire Love Potions from your Neighbors or by purchasing them with Farm Cash.

You can use the up and down arrows to choose how many Love Potions you want to spend. If you don’t have enough, you’ll be prompted to buy more. When you’re satisfied with your chances, select the option to breed. The stall at the upper left will become occupied and their places in the Pig Pen pasture will be replaced with helpful signs. If there’s a timer, a clock in the stall will show how much time is left to go. Now, with any luck, you’ve bred a new piglet! You can choose to name your piglet, choose to Give it Away or you can keep it.

Once placed on your farm, a piglet can be fully grown using 10 Baby Bottles. You can acquire Baby Bottles from the your neighbors, the free gifts page, or from the Market for Farm Cash. Once you’ve applied 10 Bottles the piglet will grow into an adult boar or pig.

Currently boars only come in two different patterns; plain and spotted. As noted above, the colors available for pig breeding is a somewhat random process, based on the colors and patterns of the parents used. Each color a parent possesses has a certain color range that can be applied to the Pig in question, so you never really know what you’re going to get.

And as with Sheep Pens, there is a limit as to how many bred boars and pigs you can have on each farm at any one time. The limit is 100, which includes all bred pigs on that particular farm, in that farm’s Pig Pen, and in the Gift Box. This is per farm, so you can have up to 100 for each the Home Farm and the English Countryside farm.

We’ve also streamlined the way truffle hunting works, and we’ve revised the rewards you get for redeeming truffles! With the addition of breeding, Pig Slop has been removed from FarmVille. If you still have some in your Gift Box or elsewhere, go ahead and get rid of it. Going forward, when you click to harvest your Pig Pen, you’ll start your only truffle hunt of the day. The pig chosen to hunt with is completely random, as is the neighbor’s farm you can find the truffle on.

If you find a truffle, you’ll see a pop up prompting you to share the truffle with that neighbor. Clicking Share will ask you to make a post to their wall, informing them of your discovery. They can then respond by returning the same type of truffle to you by posting on your wall.

Again, this will be the only truffle hunt of the day; once your Pig Pen is ready to be harvested again, you can try for another truffle hunt. The prizes for redeeming a truffle have been heavily revised. You can get building parts, bottles, love potions, and all sorts of other treats (including other animals) by redeeming truffles now.

Finally, Pig Pens now visually show which pigs you have in it, similar to Sheep Pens. The pigs you put in last show up in each of the 3 stalls as well as the mud yard in front of the pen.

Now, we know that the introduction of a new animal to breed has sparked some concern that there will be an insufficient amount of Love Potions to go around for both sheep and pigs. That’s why, for a limited time, all farmers will be able to craft love potions in their Pubs. In addition to this, you will also be able to craft bricks in your bakeries, wooden boards in your spas, and nails in your winery.

On that note, let’s go ahead and get into the coming soon segment of this week’s podcast. First up, we have an addition coming in the near future that many of our players will be excited to see. Soon, your Chicken Coop, Dairy Barn, Pig Pen, Turkey Roost, Duck Pond and Animal Trough will be rotatable, like many of the other buildings in the game.

And lastly, we are also planning on increasing the Bushel Limit for all of our farmers. Soon, you will be able to store an additional 25 bushels for every additional stall you have on your farm after your first.

Alright folks, that’s it from me this week. Again, my name is Lexilicious and I will be back on May 6th to bring you all of the latest news and information about FarmVille from Zynga!

Happy Farming Everybody!
